Canada Post has issued a third stamp to complete its Royal Wedding collection of commemorative stamps. The domestic Permanent™ stamp features a candid photo of the newlyweds in their open carriage shortly after completing their wedding vows at Westminster Abbey. The stamp will commemorate the first Royal Visit to Canada following their wedding. The two other stamps were issued on the wedding day, April 29, and already over 5 million stamps have been sold.
“This stamp is an excellent way for Canadians to commemorate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first visit to Canada,” said the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Minister of State (Transport). “I am pleased and proud that Canada will welcome the Royal Couple on their first official visit abroad.”
The photograph for the new stamp of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (William and Kate) was personally approved by the Royal Family and shows the bride and groom waving to the crowd of well-wishers that lined the streets leading to Buckingham Palace. This commemorative stamp is among the first to be issued after the Royal Wedding.
“This stamp, along with the other Royal Wedding stamps, will become great keepsakes for the millions of people across Canada who watched the wedding of the century,” says Deepak Chopra, President and CEO, Canada Post. “We are extremely proud of our collection and are thrilled to see how Canadians and people from around the world have embraced it. So far, the Royal Wedding collection is among the fastest selling commemorative stamps we’ve ever issued.”
Also available is a souvenir sheet of the stamps featuring an exterior view of Westminster Abbey, where the marriage took place, and a souvenir sheet with the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa in the background.
The stamps and related products were created by Montreal-based graphic designer Isabelle Toussaint who has been the designer for the entire Royal Wedding collection as well as Canada Post’s popular flower series of postage stamps.
