The Palestine central post office is issuing a series of commemorative postage stamps and postcards this month. For the first time, they will identify the country of origin as Palestine.

Postmaster Fathi Shbak says the stamps are meant to inspire pride among Palestinians, and recognition from the rest of the world.

"These things, small things, symbolize a country," he said. "Any foreign person who sees Palestinian stamps or something he will know that there is a country called Palestine in this world."

In June, then Acting General Director Fathi Shbak announced that the Palestinian postal authority had signed a deal to have all its overseas deliveries go through Jordan instead of Israel. The postal authority is also instituting a system of ZIP codes and has refurbished offices around the West Bank.

The new logo of the Palestine post? "We Emerge Again."
