I enjoyed your article. I am a veteran stamp collector myself - almost retired from collecting. I agree with you mostly. But since I collect for enjoyment and not for profit, I do not care about watermark detectors, perforation guages, color charts etc. Those things take the enjoyment out of collecting. It makes the hobby a chore and unnecessarily complicated and time consuming. I am a hobbyist, and NOT a professional collector. I collect worldwide stamps. Stamp collecting has made my knowledge about the whole world much richer rather than knowledge about stamps only.

To make stamp collecting an enjoyable hobby, I have a web site aimed at beginners and intermediate collectors. It teaches them the basics of stamp collecting and how to make the hobby interesting and enjoyable. The title of my site is "Stamp Collecting - Doing it for enjoyment, not for profit". It is located at the above mentioned URL. Anybody interested is invited to check it out. One can swap stamps with other collectors through my site. And the site also has a stamp discussion forum to interact with other collectors.

This article was helpful to me. I am a stamp collector, yet do not think that a stamp perf. gauge or stamp tongs are musts. Thank you for the valuable and helpful information.
